Dr Lucy Gallagher

M.A. (Edinburgh), M.A., Ph.D. (Newcastle)

Dr Gallagher is Head of English and form tutor to 8S. She took her degree in Philosophy and English Literature from Edinburgh University, and read for her Master’s and Ph.D. at Newcastle University where she specialised in contemporary literary culture and the British canon. She has published articles on topics including feminist theory, middlebrow culture and women’s writing. Dr Gallagher relocated to Oxford in 2013 to undertake her PGCE at the Oxford University Department of Education and has recently taught at St Edward’s School and the Oxford Tutorial College. 

Beyond the classroom, Dr Gallagher has a passion for Art History and has travelled the length of Italy, taking in the wonders of the Renaissance and Baroque along the way. Closer to home, British artists Stanley Spencer and Laura Knight are among her favourites. Currently, Dr Gallagher is trying to develop her horticultural skills and can often be found pottering and playing in the garden with her young daughter, Flora.
