Rated 'excellent' in every aspect by the ISI, and founded as an integral part of New College in 1379, New College School is one of the country’s leading pre-prep and prep schools. Situated at the heart of the University of Oxford, we feed to top independent senior and boarding schools throughout Oxfordshire and nationwide.

NCS has a reputation for academic excellence, nurturing pastoral care, and dynamic creative arts, taking our musical lead from our world-famous choristers. Learning in a school nestled among Oxford's colleges, NCS boys from the age of four have unrivalled access to stunning educational and cultural facilities and resources. They also learn to be healthy, caring and responsible citizens, making positive contributions to a fast-changing world.

Welcome!

Meet the Headmaster, Head of Pre-Prep, and Head Boy

A very warm welcome to New College School, a happy, nurturing and thriving community of boys aged 4-13 in the heart of collegiate Oxford. We have been going for over six hundred years, but we are equally proud of our reputation for forward-looking excellence and innovation in education. Our culture of mutual respect and cheerful collaboration suffuses NCS life, inside the classroom and out, and our strong sense of community is reflected in our valuing and celebrating the boys’ talents and achievements wherever they reside – in academic scholarship, music, sport, drama, art, or any other area they may find their passions.

We are very fortunate to enjoy a close relationship with New College, Oxford – the school has been an integral part of William of Wykeham’s foundation since 1379 – and we benefit from inspirational surroundings and access to state-of-the-art facilities that enable us to pursue the highest standards. But, as beautiful as our environment may be, NCS is about people. We understand that high standards are most effectively and happily met when we all pull together and support one another in our creative endeavours.

We believe in taking each pupil on their own terms and we are able to do this because of our relaxed, fun and purposeful atmosphere, small class sizes, and talented and dedicated colleagues. We can therefore tailor our teaching and learning to fit each pupil during their nine years with us, and many families choose NCS because they can watch their son develop in a nurturing environment and then have a variety of choice of schools at 13+, at which point we feed to many of the country's top senior schools, locally and nationally.

Throughout this process, we enjoy working closely, and communicating frequently, with parents to promote a healthy, accessible and open dialogue between all those involved in educating and bringing up our boys. This is an education in the broadest sense. Stimulating curriculum content sits happily alongside a rich diet of extra-curricular activities and the development of beneficial learning habits and life skills – all to promote our boys’ current and future wellbeing, and their positive resilience and flexibility in the face of twenty-first-century life.

I am acutely aware of the privilege it is to lead such a positive and creative community, with its pervasive sense of camaraderie, happiness and enjoyment in all that we do. You are most welcome at any time to come and see us in action, and to see what it is that enables each boy to flourish at NCS and proceed with cheerful confidence and enthusiasm to his chosen senior school. Please phone 01865 285560 or email office@newcollegeschool.org to arrange a time – we very much look forward to seeing you.

Dr Matt Jenkinson
