Year 5 Synagogue Visit
On Tuesday 1 March we went on a school trip to the synagogue in Jericho.
Dr Levicki, whose son was at New College, explained lots of interesting things to us about Jewish life, such as how meat and dairy foods are separated, and that the Ten Commandments are always displayed in a synagogue, usually above the Ark. We also learnt that The Torah is written in Hebrew, and Jewish students can get free food at synagogues around the world if they need it. Jewish celebrations involve family a lot. The Torah scrolls are protected by embroidered covers which are very beautiful. We walked there and back which made it extremely enjoyable too.
