Charities, 2022-23
Pupils at NCS support charities in numerous ways throughout the year: the Young Art Oxford competition, donations during Harvest Festival, collections after major services, entries into the Town and Gown fun run, to mention a few.
The Charity Committee at NCS sets out to raise awareness and support those in need, both in our immediate community and further afield. This involves a termly charity week, during which pupils bake cakes for the cake sale, wear home clothes on the last day before half-term and the senior boys compete in a pupils’ vs teachers fun sport event (this year featuring dodgeball, basketball, and tennis).
In Michaelmas we supported the development and expansion of an iCal English programme through our link school, the Nalang Model Academy in Nepal. In Hilary we supported the Oxford Hub and their locally run programmes offering tutoring support, swimming lessons, and a bicycle library. In Trinity, we supported World Bicycle Relief and participated in a challenge as a school to cycle 325 miles using an exercise bike. This was to replicate the efforts of a member of our community, Emily Gee, and her fundraising for World Bicycle Relief cycling across Zambia. Thank you to the Charity Committee for all their efforts and enthusiasm. Thank you also to our entire school community who have been so generous in giving their time, efforts and financial donations to such worthy causes.
