Sicily is the perfect destination for our Year 8 leavers’ trip: the sun shines pretty much the whole time, there are plenty of fascinating ruins and buildings to keep us occupied, the food is fantastic, and the beaches are beautiful.
Days of endless sunshine marked this year’s French trip to La Grand’ Ferme in Normandy.
The rousing choruses of The Pirates of Penzance had been emanating from the open windows of the school for weeks when the Years 3&4 production finally took to the stage on 21 and 22 June.
For a number of years now, the Year 7 and 8 boys at NCS have taken on a year-long independent research project.
The leavers’ playreading has established itself as an event at the heart of the events enjoyed by our Year 8 and 8S boys, their families and friends, just before they depart for pastures new.
After Assessment Week the boys in Years 5 and 6 were lucky enough to have a visit from Mr Dominic Parkinson.
Having already read the play in our English lessons, Year 8 and 8S were excited to see the Royal Shakespeare Company production of Romeo and Juliet.
We were thrilled to host historian Lyndsey Jenkins and Fawcett Society trustee Dinti Batstone to talk to NCS boys about the history of women’s suffrage and the future of gender equality.
Timon and Kian in Year 4 took part in the IAPS U9 Chess National Finals. Both boys played fantastically well, and Timon emerged the winner. Well done both!
Christopher Brain has been named a finalist in the 18 and under category in the National Centre for Early Music Young Composers’ Competition, with a short work inspired by Renaissance Venice. The finalists’ entries will be performed in York on 10th May by The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble. The concert will also be live streamed at http://www.ncem.co.uk/composersaward2018.
We were delighted to welcome back to NCS the BAFTA- and EMMY-award-winning screenwriter, Adrian Hodges.
