Gabrielle (Gabi) Maas

Gabi studied at Chetham’s School of Music, St John’s College, Cambridge and Christ Church, Oxford. Alongside her role at NCS she is a French lecturer at Hertford and St Peter’s Colleges in Oxford; her D.Phil combined these interests in a study of activist song and language politics among Algerian Berber musicians living in Paris.

Gabi has played with groups including Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Instruments of Time & Truth. She has previously taught at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, University of Glasgow, Harrow School and Bath Traditional Music Summer School.

Gabi also plays nyckelharpa (a traditional Swedish instrument) and has travelled widely attempting to learn the basics of other violin styles in Ireland, North Africa and south India.
